Worker Sues Billionaire for Dog Bite in Palm Beach

AggressiveDog

Aggressive dogs are capable of causing life-altering injuries in Florida, and owners often contribute to these incidents in various ways. Their negligence might begin with poor training, leaving the dog undisciplined. The owner might also fail to secure the animal, leaving it to roam freely and injure innocent victims. A recent incident in Palm Beach shows that this type of attack might also harm workers. Can a Palm Beach Gardens dog bite lawyer help if you experience something similar?

Billionaires Accused of Allowing Alleged Dog Attack

A woman who once worked at the home of a well-known billionaire couple in Palm Beach claims that she was attacked and injured by the family dog. The injured plaintiffs argue that the animal “lunged” at her aggressively while she was performing work-related duties at the multi-million-dollar mansion. According to Palm Beach Daily News, she previously worked at the estate as a housekeeper.

An interesting detail is that the dog did not actually come into contact with the alleged victim. Instead, the animal seems to have merely startled her – causing her to back up rapidly and lose her footing. The resulting fall caused the injury – and the dog never bit, scratched, or pushed her.

In her lawsuit, the plaintiff alleges that the dog’s aggressive nature was well-known to everyone who worked at the home. She claims that she did not provoke the animal before it lunged at her, and she points out that the canine was not properly restrained inside the home.

This incident occurred in 2023, and the woman is probably filing her claim now to avoid issues with Florida’s two-year statute of limitations. She claims that this wasn’t the first time the dog was aggressive toward her, pointing to two previous incidents on the premises. During one of these incidents, the dog ripped her clothes after latching on with its teeth. During the second incident, the plaintiff was forced to use a vacuum cleaner to keep the animal at bay.

It remains to be seen whether the lunging motion of the dog constitutes aggression in the eyes of the court. This type of situation is not very common, but one could realistically make the argument that the dog “caused” the fall.

Since this employee was working for an independent contractor (and not directly for the couple), this might represent her only real way to pursue compensation. Workers’ comp might not be possible in this situation.

Can a Palm Beach Gardens Dog Bite Lawyer Help Me?

A Palm Beach Gardens dog bite lawyer might be able to help if you were injured by an aggressive animal. Whether you ventured onto the property to deliver mail or you work at the home of the dog owner, you have the right to take action after a dog attack. Owners are legally responsible for the behavior of their pets, and a dog bite lawsuit might provide more compensation than a workers’ comp claim. Contact Steinberg Law today to learn more.
