Woman Faces Charges After Allegedly Fleeing School Bus Crash in Boca Raton

Woman Claims She Was Searching for a Church After Hitting School Bus

Officials say the woman in question struck the passenger side of a school bus in Boca Raton before attempting to flee the scene. Witnesses then saw her vehicle veer off the side of the road and strike a sign before smashing through several bushes. She then reportedly exited her vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.

Officers later caught up with the woman and observed her “bloodshot and watery eyes.” The officer also reported seeing her unable to maintain her balance or speak coherently. When questioned about the impact with the school bus, the woman claimed she had no memory of the collision.

She also could not remember which city she was in or the correct date. Finally, she admitted to taking prescription medication before driving. When police asked her why she left the scene of a collision, she told them that she was trying to find a church that offered baptism services.

After first responders transported the woman to a local hospital at her request, she initially refused a blood test. She then agreed but changed her mind once again midway through the blood draw, yanking the needle out of her arm. Police officers then arrested her on charges of driving under the influence (DUI) with property damage, hit-and-run, and test refusal.

Fortunately, none of the reports on this incident indicate any notable injuries. Although there were 15 students on board the bus when the crash occurred, the impact was not heavy enough to harm them.
