The Rising Issue of Sexual Assault on Cruise Lines

When most people book cruises, they never expect to suffer the unimaginable trauma of a sexual assault. However, this often becomes a tragic reality for many victims across Florida and the United States. Women, men, and minors are all vulnerable – especially when cruise lines fail to implement proper security measures. What can you do if a sexual predator harmed you or someone you love on a cruise line? Can a Florida sexual assault lawyer help you seek closure and compensation?
Recent Examples of Cruise Ship Sexual Assault Lawsuits in Florida
Within the past few months alone, there have been countless reports of sexual assaults on various cruise lines. In June of 2025, Insurance Journal reported a major sexual assault lawsuit involving a cruise line based in Florida. The case involved a teenage girl who found herself locked in a stateroom with three young men.
The plaintiff argued that one of the assailants had been caught trying to smuggle liquor onto the vessel before the assault. According to the cruise line’s own written policies, this individual should have been removed from the vessel or placed under curfew. The plaintiff’s counsel also argued that there was an insufficient security presence on board the ship at the time of the assault.
Back in March of 2025, another victim sued after she was allegedly sexually assaulted by a DJ on an American cruise line. The victim claims that the attack occurred while she was in her own room, and the perpetrator was an employee of the cruise line. After the ship reached Fort Lauderdale, she immediately notified the FBI of what had happened.
This case comes just two months after another woman reported being raped twice in her own room by two different crew members. These incidents occurred on a ship operated by a Geneva-based cruise line with offices in Miami.
Also in March, Cruise Law News reported that two men had been arrested after sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy on another cruise line. The pair was reportedly arrested in PortMiami after allegedly molesting the child in a sauna on board the vessel. According to the authorities, one of them is HIV-positive.
Incidents like this help explain why sources like Newsweek and Moneywise are sounding the alarm on the “dark cloud” hanging over the cruise industry involving countless sexual assault allegations.
