Slew of Passenger Injuries Reported on Florida Cruise Ships

Over the past few days, numerous passengers have suffered injuries in various cruise ship incidents. Many of these cruise lines are operated out of Florida, which means that injured plaintiffs may be able to file injury claims in the Sunshine State after their cruise ship accidents. These incidents highlight how dangerous it can be to travel on a cruise ship. If you have experienced a similar injury, consider speaking with a cruise ship accident lawyer in Florida.
69-Mile-Per-Hour Winds Cause Close Call on Cruise Ship in Alaska
In June of 2025, The Street reported that strong winds had blown a gangway into the water after a cruise ship docked in Alaska. The winds were traveling at speeds of almost 70 miles per hour, and they also snapped the ropes keeping the ship attached to the dock. Tugboats quickly arrived at the scene and pushed the boat back to the pier.
Somehow, there were no reports of injuries. However, this situation could have been much worse. If the passengers had been walking down the gangway the moment it detached, they would have fallen into freezing water. The victims would have suffered from hypothermia, and they may have lost their lives. One can only survive for a few minutes in the freezing waters of Alaska.
Strong Winds Send Man’s Wife Hurtling Into the Water
At around the same time, similarly powerful winds sent a woman hurtling into the water near Sicily. The woman had been standing on a Norwegian Epic vessel, and she fell into the bay when a gangway collapsed. This collapse was caused when a mooring bollard gave way, and the ship suddenly jolted away from the pier.
Moments after the woman fell into the water, her husband decided to dive in after her. He successfully rescued his wife, but both were injured during the incident. One has to wonder what might have happened if the woman had been alone on the cruise ship. Would anyone have noticed her falling into the water? Again, it’s fair to say that this situation could have been much worse. It’s worth noting that despite its name, Norwegian is based in Florida.
Passenger Injured on MSC Ship in the Bahamas
The third incident involved an MSC vessel at the Ocean Cay Marine Reserve in the Bahamas. The ship experienced a “squall line” of heavy wind and rain, causing lines on the starboard side to snap. This caused the ship to unexpectedly pull away from the gangway and dock, injuring one passenger. Fortunately, this individual only suffered minor injuries.
