Man Plans to Sue After Waterslide on Cruise Ship Breaks

Waterslides are common features on cruise ships, and these additions make pools particularly interesting for passengers. However, waterslides can also be extremely dangerous, especially when poorly maintained. A recent slide-related incident could lead to a personal injury lawsuit against a cruise line based in Florida. If you were injured in a similar manner, consider reviewing your options with a cruise ship injury attorney in Boca Raton.
Injury Allegedly Caused by Broken Glass on Cruise Ship Slide
In August of 2025, Local10 reported that a man had decided to sue a major Florida-based cruise line after suffering waterslide-related injuries. This plaintiff claims that he was riding the slide when an acrylic glass section suddenly cracked. A witness told reporters that she witnessed not one but two injuries as a result of the cracked glass.
The witness states that the cracked glass caused slight lacerations to the man who rode the slide before the plaintiff. However, the glass became more cracked after this individual passed along its surface. When the plaintiff used the slide, the same crack was more pronounced – and it allegedly caused more serious lacerations.
The witness states that the accident could have been much worse. She notes that the glass could have completely shattered, causing the man to fall a considerable distance. Fortunately, the overall integrity of the structure remained intact – and the cracked glass managed to hold the man’s weight.
This still doesn’t change the fact that he suffered serious lacerations, however. According to the lawsuit, medical staff on the cruise line rushed to the man’s aid, providing assistance to the man until he was able to seek further treatment on land. Representatives of the cruise line also noted that the slide was closed for the rest of the voyage.
Waterslide Injuries Are Common on Cruise Ships
Unfortunately, these types of incidents occur all the time on waterslides. Often, these slides are constructed in a somewhat ramshackle fashion. They may not be designed to bear much weight, and staff may fail to maintain them properly. In the aforementioned incident, one might argue that staff should have been watching carefully to spot signs of damage – including cracked glass.
Victims may be able to sue for waterslide injuries, especially if the injury stems from repeated mechanical wear-and-tear that was never properly addressed by the cruise line.
