Major Florida Cruise Line Faces Wrongful Death Lawsuit

In December of 2025, multiple sources reported that a prominent Florida cruise line was facing a wrongful death lawsuit. Man Allegedly Served 33 Drinks Before Cruise Fatality 

According to this wrongful death lawsuit, the victim was served a total of 33 alcoholic beverages by cruise staff before his death. The fatality occurred in December of 2024, and the victim was traveling with his fiancée and son. After becoming heavily intoxicated, the victim allegedly became confused and started searching for his cabin.

When staff members approached him, the victim reportedly became agitated. This caused the staff members to physically subdue the individual. This physical intervention ultimately led to his death, as staff members put their full weight on his body and prevented him from breathing. Some reports state that the defendant attacked two staff members before this intervention occurred.

Footage released in 2024 seems to show the plaintiff attempting to kick down cabin doors, reportedly while searching for crew members to assault. Before his death, staff sprayed the victim with pepper spray and injected him with a sedative. A medical examiner concluded that his death was caused by a combination of suffocation, obesity, and alcohol intoxication. There was no word on whether the sedative might have contributed to the fatality.

Based on the footage and various reports, it is fair to say that the victim’s conduct after becoming intoxicated was unsafe, irresponsible, and violent. After being served 33 drinks by staff,  the victim must have reached an incredibly high level of intoxication. In fact, it is a miracle he survived as long as he did without dying from alcohol poisoning.

This specific cruise line has a “Deluxe Beverage Package” with no daily limits on the amount of alcohol you can consume. However, the “fine print” states that once you become visibly intoxicated or disruptive, staff are supposed to stop serving you. Clearly, staff members must have violated this internal policy before the fatality. One might argue that this represents negligence in and of itself.
