Family Sues After Autistic Child Injured on Zipline in Boca Raton

As autism rates increase in Florida, more companies are trying to cater to those on the spectrum. It is important to remember that these children may face increased injury risks for various reasons, and businesses must be very careful to protect these minors. This need for increased caution becomes particularly important if the company specifically targets autistic customers. A recent premises liability lawsuit in Boca Raton shows how dangerous these incidents can be.

Lawsuit Claims Autistic Girl Was “Critically Injured” on Zipline

In May of 2025, Boca News Now reported that the father of an autistic girl had sued a playground facility in Boca Raton. The victim allegedly suffered critical injuries after attempting to navigate the facility’s zipline.

According to the lawsuit, the child became entangled in the zipline’s seat toward the end of the ride. This caused an impact with a vertical pole, which the plaintiff claims was “unreasonably close to the end of the ride.” The impact allegedly caused serious injuries, although the specific details of these injuries are absent from the lawsuit.

The plaintiff claims that in addition to being unreasonably close to the end of the ride, the vertical pole also lacked sufficient padding to cushion potential impacts. The plaintiff also argues that there were no verbal or written warnings about this hazard. Finally, they claim that no one instructed them on how to safely dismount the zipline.

Boca News Now states that the facility in Boca Raton has been operating in the area for years with no issues. The facility caters specifically to autistic children, mainly by adding considerable padding and cushioning throughout the area. The facility’s official website describes this as a “sensory-safe gym,” noting that parents supervise the children at all times.

Autistic Children May Be More Prone to Injury

Various studies suggest that autistic children are much more likely to suffer injuries compared to their “neurotypical” peers. Some sources state that autistic children are up to 40 times more likely to die from these injuries compared to the general population. However, the truth can be difficult to determine with the relatively recent rise of widespread autism diagnoses.

Whatever the case may be, facilities that cater specifically to autistic children may need to exercise higher levels of care compared to other business owners. If you believe your autistic child was injured due to an obvious mistake, consider speaking with an experienced injury attorney. These legal professionals may be able to help you hold negligent businesses accountable.
