Driver Charged for Hitting Pedestrian Pushing Wheelchair in Boynton Beach

PushingWheelchair

In June of 2025, The Palm Beach Post reported that a man was arrested for manslaughter and other offenses after a pedestrian accident in Boynton Beach. He allegedly struck a man pushing a wheelchair before fleeing the scene. This incident highlights the level of negligence and irresponsibility that has become so common among drivers. If your family has experienced a tragedy like this, consider speaking with an experienced pedestrian accident lawyer in Boynton Beach.

Driver Was Reportedly Drunk When He Struck Man Pushing Wheelchair

The driver who allegedly caused this pedestrian collision is now facing charges of DUI manslaughter and fleeing the scene of an accident. In addition, he faces consequences for driving on a restricted license and causing property damage. He was arrested on June 13th, 2025.

Police say that back in December of 2024, the defendant was driving down Old Congress Road at about 2:00 AM when he struck a 60-year-old man pushing a wheelchair. According to reports, this victim was in the middle of the road for unknown reasons. If the driver had stopped after this collision, his consequences probably would have been much less severe. But the driver decided to flee.

The subsequent investigation took months. According to CBS 12, investigators managed to track this driver down using a combination of DNA evidence, cell phone records, and an analysis of vehicular damage.

First, police determined that the scattered wreckage at the scene belonged to a dark blue or black Honda. They then located this vehicle, which had been abandoned at a parking lot. After analyzing the vehicle, investigators determined that it contained biological material belonging to the victim. In other words, the vehicle was splattered with visible blood.

They then linked the vehicle to the defendant by speaking with the man’s brother, who told them it once belonged to him. This brother had sold the defendant his vehicle a year earlier. Next, detectives took swabs from the driver’s side and matched these DNA samples to the defendant.

Finally, authorities analyzed the defendant’s cell phone. This proved that the defendant was in the area of the crash at the time of the victim’s death. All of this was enough to link him to the scene of the fatal accident, and he was subsequently arrested. However, police also noted that the accident would not have happened if the man in the wheelchair had not decided to walk down the middle of a road at 2:00 AM.
